Oliver: I'm small, if you haven't noticed.
Vincent: Yeah, so was Hitler.
Oliver: That's a horrible comparison.
Vincent: Indeed. Making a point, though.
Oliver: No, sir. Are they old?
Vincent: No. They're dead. That's the oldest you can be.
Oliver: Or the youngest. Time freezes when you're dead.
Daka: He don't like people. People don't like him. Except cat, and you. Why you like him?
Vincent: Call a plumber.
Vincent: I'm showing him how the world works. You work, you get paid, you drink.
Maggie: You're drinking alcohol?
Vincent: ...I honestly don't remember.
Oliver: What's that?
Vincent: It's one of the more honest ways to make a living.
Maggie: Yep.
Oliver: It's gonna be a long life.
Maggie: Well, your father must think I'm a tree.
Oliver: Why would he think that?
Maggie: Nothing. Nothing.
Vincent: It's more interesting.
Zucko: And a lot more painful.

Bill Murray's excellent acting made me hate and love Vincent at the same time: the character turned out really "multilevel". And I also want to notice Jaeden Lieberher's performance: his role don't seem similar to the majority of children in films. Oliver is a smart and serious boy who despite his age understands life better than many adults.
But probably if the film don't catch from the beginning, you must watch till the end to hear Oliver's long monologue which moved me to tears.
Advantages
- Bill Murray as Vincent MacKenna
- Jaeden Lieberher as Oliver Bronstein
- The film is about funny and dramatic life
Disadvantages
- A little too close to life
Strangenesses
- Why Daka is bound to Vincent?
Clue Moments
- Oliver hits the boy
- Vincent in hospital
- Oliver's performance in school
Quite often a bad temper hides a good person strange though it may seem. But way exactly this way? The answer is "such is life" as many people like say or think. A lame excuse. Yes, life isn't all honey however it isn't a reason to become nasty. Not everyone is broken, some just play a role of someone like this concealing real feelings and emotions, not rarely a warm heart. Therefore the main task is to wake up the person understanding his or her troubles that makes show his or her real face.
