"The Terminator" is a science fiction action film directed and co-written by James Cameron. The story is about a human-looking cyborg whose aim is to kill Sarah Connor, the future mother of John Connor, the leader of resistance in the coming war with machines.
Cast
- Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator / T-800
- Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese
- Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor
- Paul Winfield as Ed Traxler
- Lance Henriksen as Hal Vukovich
- Earl Boen as Dr. Peter Silberman
- Bess Motta as Ginger Ventura
- Rick Rossovich as Matt Buchanan
That's a classic film, one of the cinematic masterpieces - and that's all what needs to say. But if we look closer, we may notice that the plot is a little too straightforward: we know exactly who is good and who is bad. But an interesting idea of time travelling makes this small disadvantage almost unnoticeable. Thank James Cameron for this!
Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator looks like a real machine: nearly no emotions during the whole film and that seems right in my opinion. Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese is absolutely wonderful except the moment with the injured leg. Linda Hamilton performs Sarah Connor, a woman whose name has become famous not in the last instance due to the actress.
Advantages
- Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese
- James Cameron
- The interesting plot
Disadvantages
- Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator is almost absolutely emotionless but it makes his character seem like a real cyborg
"Strangenesses"
- Why Sarah doesn't get a shock when the Terminator destroys?
Clue Moments
- Many people with one name
- Finding out who is John's father
The war between people and machines doesn't seem improbable especially for today when technologies are becoming better and better. And it scares. Artificial intelligence is more perfect than human's one and this way its advantage is inestimable. And why people create enemies for themselves?

Cleaning Man at Flophouse: [Damaged skin on the Terminator is rotting from gangrene] Hey, buddy. You got a dead cat in there, or what?[the Terminator visualizes: 'POSSIBLE RESPONSE: YES/NO; OR WHAT?; GO AWAY; PLEASE COME BACK LATER; F*CK YOU, A**HOLE; FUCK YOU']
The Terminator: F*ck you, a**hole.

The Terminator: I'll be back!

Kyle Reese: Come with me if you want to live.

Title card: The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight...

Sarah Connor: Are you sure you have the right person?Kyle Reese: I'm sure.
Sarah Connor: Oh, come on. Do I look like the mother of the future? I mean am I tough, organized? I can't even balance my checkbook. Look Reese, I didn't ask for this honor and I don't WANT IT, ANY OF IT!
Kyle Reese: Your son gave me a message to give to you. He made me memorize it.
[reciting message]
Kyle Reese: Thank you, Sarah, for your courage through the dark years. I can't help you with what you must soon face, expect to say that the future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves. You must be stronger than you imagine you can be. You must survive, or I will never exist.

Sarah Connor: What's it like when you go through time?Kyle Reese: White light. Pain. It's like being born, maybe.
* * *
Kyle Reese: Cyborgs don't feel pain. I do. Don't do that again.Sarah Connor: Just let me go!
Kyle Reese: Listen, and understand! That Terminator is out there! It can be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

Nancy: Look at it this way: in a hundred years, who's gonna care?

Sarah Connor: Kyle, the women in your time, what are they like?Kyle Reese: Good fighters.
Sarah Connor: That's not what I meant. Was there someone special?
Kyle Reese: Someone?
Sarah Connor: A girl, you know.
Kyle Reese: No. Never.
Sarah Connor: Never? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. So much pain.
Kyle Reese: Pain can be controlled - you just disconnect it.

Kyle Reese: He's not a man - a machine. A Terminator. A Cyberdyne Systems Model 101.Sarah Connor: A machine? Like a robot?
Kyle Reese: Not a robot. A cyborg. A cybernetic organism.

Sarah Connor: Tell me about my son.Kyle Reese: He's about my height. He has your eyes.
Sarah Connor: What's he like?
Kyle Reese: You trust him. He's got a strength. I'd die for John Connor.
Sarah Connor: Well... at least now I know what to name him. I don't suppose you know who the father is, so I won't tell him to get lost when I meet him?
Kyle Reese: John never said much about him. I know he dies before the war.
Sarah Connor: Wait. I don't want to know.

Dr. Silberman: Why this elaborate scheme with the Terminator?Kyle Reese: It had no choice. Their defense grid was smashed. We'd won. Taking out Connor then would make no difference. Skynet had to wipe out his entire existence!
