That film was one of my most expected films of 2013 and now stays one of my favourite pictures. Why? There are many reasons. First of all, David O. Russell, who is most known to me for "The Fighter" (2010) and "Silver Linings Playbook" (2012) and who won my sympathy. Amy Adams, one of my favourite actresses, became the second reason. Thirdly, Christian Bale, whose performance was really outstanding and whose appearance had changed so much that I hardly recognised him. Fourthly, my darling Bradley Cooper in role of  FBI Agent Richie DiMaso turned out witty, naive and brave at the same time. Fifthly, Jennifer Lawrence's not big but important part of Irving's neurotic wife. Sixthly, Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye from "The Avengers". And seventhly, the theme of the film and the atmosphere seemed like those I was keen on. I think that's all of main reasons.

Advantages
  • Christian Bale as Irving Rosenfeld
  • Bradley Cooper as FBI Agent Richard "Richie" DiMaso
  • Amy Adams as Sydney Prosser / Lady Edith Greensly
  • Jeremy Renner as Mayor Carmine Polito
  • Jennifer Lawrence as Rosalyn Rosenfeld
  • David O. Russell

Disadvantages
  • Too little Amy Adams

"Strangenesses"
  • Some historic mistakes

Clue Moments
  • Meeting of Irving and Sydney
  • A microwave owen

Life is connected with so much lies and crimes which aren't without their bright moments: a person may be a criminal but this fact doesn't mean he or she is absolutely bad. His or her life might be also full of love, joy, friends, why not? This world is neither black nor white - it's grey and it's important to remember.

The film shows a viewer the story of Abscam. ABSCAM - a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) sting operation that took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The two-year investigation was directed from the FBI's office in Hauppauge, New York, and was under the supervision of Assistant Director Neil J. Welch, who headed the bureau's New York division, and Thomas P. Puccio, head of the Justice Department's Organized Crime Strike Force for the Eastern District of New York. The operation initially targeted trafficking in stolen property and corruption of prestigious businessmen, but was later converted to a public corruption investigation. The FBI, aided by the Justice Department and a convicted con-man, videotaped politicians accepting bribes from a fraudulent Arabian company in return for various political favors.

Quotations
* * *
Irving Rosenfeld: I felt like we had a secret, just the two of us. Like that thing where you just wanna be with one person all the time. You feel like the two of you get something no one else gets.
* * *
Sydney Prosser: You're nothing to me until you're everything.
* * *
Irving Rosenfeld: Did you ever have to find a way to survive and you knew your choices were bad, *but* you had to survive?
* * *
Irving Rosenfeld: When you are offered a favor or money, take the favor, not the money. Jesus said that, didn't he?
* * *
Sydney Prosser: [On the phone] Who's that? Who are you with?
Richie DiMaso: Oh no, just people.
Richie's Girlfriend: [Across the hall] People? I'm your fiance. Richard!
Sydney Prosser: Oh, you've got a fiance, you're engaged.
Richie DiMaso: [Stammering] I don't-I don't-I don't have a fiance-I don't know-I don't know.
Sydney Prosser: You don't know? You don't know if you have a fiance?
Richie DiMaso: I don't. No.
Sydney Prosser: Interesting.
* * *
Rosalyn Rosenfeld: [Discussing her nail polish with Dolly Polito] There's something, the topcoat. It's like, perfumey, but there's also something, rotten. And I know that sounds crazy, but I can't get enough of it.
* * *
Richie DiMaso: What's the ending of the ice fishing story?
Stoddard Thorsen: I'm not telling you the end of the ice fishing story!
Richie DiMaso: I'm going to call your f*ckin' brother to find out the end.
Stoddard Thorsen: My brother's *dead*!
Richie DiMaso: That's how it ends! He fell through the f*ckin' ice!
Stoddard Thorsen: No, that's not... He died a different way, many years later!
* * *
Sydney Prosser: Everybody at the bottom crosses paths eventually in a pool of desperation and you're waiting for them...
Irving Rosenfeld: How about "we"?
* * *
Richie DiMaso: You know what, if the country were run by people like you, Irving Rosenfeld, we'd be living in Eastern Europe or Guatemala.
