I'd been familiar by hearsay with the book "Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia", so one summer evening, when I was tied myself into a knot, I decided to watch a screen version. Well, it had so impressed me that the following day I finally started doing things, which I'd dreamt ed about but hadn't put into practice. For example, I began improving my English and going to yoga. After all those changes I wanted to read the book nevertheless. Frankly speaking, it has turned out even more interesting than a film. Probably I've got the impression because the director of the film based on the female memoir was a man? Anyway, Ryan Murphy has created wonderful couple of series such as "Popular", "Nip/Tuck", "Glee", "American Horror Story", and "The New Normal". So maybe "Eat Pray Love" just hasn't easily beaten?

As for the acting, it didn't amaze me. It seemed like actors hadn't endeavoured, in my opinion. I even can't note the work of Julia Roberts as Liz.

Advantages
  • Julia Roberts as Elizabeth Gilbert
  • Javier Bardem as Felipe
  • Viola Davis as Delia Shiraz
  • James Franco as David

Disadvantages
  • Manual?

"Strangenesses"
  • Following the dream in search of yourself

Clue Moments
  • Italy
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • The divorce

This film is unconditionally full of ideas. On the face of it the main character, Elizabeth Gilbert, bears resemblance to a selfish woman who isn't able to make aware of her happiness. But if look closer, we can recognise ourselves in some moments. Really, who have never thought about a changing of a life? Personally I understand Liz. If you aren't happy, make something to become so. Most people make efforts to get used to their conditions and a minority of them decides to change something or everything. The second variant needs boldness, resolution and much energy but aren't these qualities of a strong personality who almost everyone wants to be?

At first the main character travels in Italy where she learns anew to enjoy her life. Live right now and appreciate every moment. Then she goes to India. This country teaches Liz to "pray". She seeks for herself finding the spirituality. And after all she sets off for Bali, Indonesia. There she finds balance and love. I think that these discoveries can make someone to see a life in a different light. Moreover, if you change something inside yourself, something outside will too.

Quotations
* * *
Liz Gilbert: In the end, I've come to believe in something I call "The Physics of the Quest." A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you're brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you.
* * *
Felipe: Listen, balance, my darling, is not letting anybody love you less than you love yourself.
* * *
Ketut Liyer: Sometimes to lose balance for love is part of living a balanced life.
* * *
Liz Gilbert: I'm sick of people telling me that I need a man.
Felipe: You don't need a man, Liz. You need a champion.
* * *
Liz Gilbert: Maybe my life hasn't been so chaotic. It's just the world that is and the only real trap is getting attached to any of it. Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.
* * *
Luca Spaghetti: Americans know entertainment, but they don't know pleasure.
* * *
Liz Gilbert: It won't last forever. Nothing does.
