"The Room". That was a film which I heard about only after the announcement of Oscar nominations 2016 - unfortunately, that's true. However, now I have no compunction about watching this outstanding picture.

Jack and his mother has spent about five years in a small shed called "Room". Why? Jack's father, Old Nick, has kidnapped and raped Joy and after that he still keeps her and doesn't let her and their kid go.

"What the hell?" - I remember that was my first thought. But when I realised that the boy had been born and grown in that place without seeing the real world - that was where the shoe pinched! All Jack has seen is Room and nothing more: no other people, no animals, no plants... That's why the most interesting starts when he and Joy escape from Old Jack.

The hospital, medicines, people, big windows, fresh air, cars - everything is new for him, everything scares him. Will he cope with his fears?

Don't expect special effects or a fast-moving moving plot as no, it's a film of an other kind. Acting and characters are the central attractions of the picture and that's what you need to pay attention to:

Brie Larson as poor but strong Joy looks incredible, Jacob Tremblay as smart and curious Jack seems so believable that you may be surprised how a such young actor is able to manage his difficult task.

And some words about colours: don't forget to notice how differ colours in Room and in the world.

Quotations
* * *
Ma: You're gonna love it.
Jack: What?
Ma: The world.
* * *
Jack: There's so much of "place" in the world. There's less time because the time has to be spread extra thin over all the places, like butter. so all the persons say "Hurry up! Let's get going! Pick up the pace! Finish up now!". Ma was in a hurry to go "boing" up to Heaven, but she forgot me. Dumbo Ma! So the aliens threw her back down. CRASH! And broke her.
* * *
Jack: When I was small, I only knew small things. But now I'm five, I know everything!
* * *
Jack: Are we in another planet?
Ma: Same one. Just a different spot.
* * *
Jack: Once upon a time, before I came, you cried and cried and watched TV all day, until you were a zombie. But then I zoomed down from Heaven, through skylight, into Room. And I was kicking you from the inside. Boom boom! And then I shot out onto Rug with my eyes wide open, and you cut the cord and said, "Hello Jack!"
* * *
Nancy: Hello, Jack. Thanks for saving our little girl.
* * *
Jack: There are so many things out here. And sometimes it's scary. But that's ok. Because it's still just you and me...
* * *
Jack: Say bye to Room, Ma.
Ma: Bye, Room.
