"Cinderella" is a romantic fantasy film directed by Kenneth Branagh and inspired by the fairy tale "Cinderella" by Charles Perrault (with some references from the Brothers Grimm's version of the story). It tells the story of Ella who suffers from her cruel stepmother and her stepsisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a charming stranger.
Cast
- Lily James as Ella ("Cinderella")
- Eloise Webb as young Ella
- Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine, the main antagonist.
- Richard Madden as Prince "Kit" Charming
- Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother
- Stellan Skarsgård as The Grand Duke
- Derek Jacobi as The King
- Hayley Atwell as Cinderella's Mother
- Holliday Grainger as Anastasia Tremaine
- Sophie McShera as Drizella Tremaine
- Nonso Anozie as Captain
- Ben Chaplin as Cinderella's Father
Kenneth Branagh is known for his roles in several film adaptations of William Shakespeare's plays and his directorial works like "Thor" (2011) and "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" (2014). His "Cinderella" turned out a kind and splendid tale, although it would have been darker if the director had stayed Mark Romanek. So a viewer may be absorbed in a fairy world for about two hours.
Lily James as Cinderella seemed light, innocent and kind but a little bit clumsy. Cate Blanchett in role of the Wicked Stepmother could exasperate and gain sympathy at the same time. Richard Madden as Prince "Kit" Charming drew my eye even more that in "Game of Thrones". My darling Helena Bonham Carter performs as well as always. Ben Chaplin is known to me for "Dorian Gray" and his acting in "Cinderella" left me satisfied.
Advantages
- Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine, the main antagonist.
- Richard Madden as Prince "Kit" Charming
- Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother
Disadvantages
- Personally my vision of Cinderella is different
"Strangenesses"
- This Fairy Godmother may go better with Alice from Wonderland
Clue Moments
- The ball
- Mother's death
- Father's death
- The crystal shoe
"Have courage and be kind", - sounds like a spell. But meanwhile it's so true. The cruel world has always needed something light and kind and probably if everyone will follow the advice it will change? Why not? It's worth a try anyway. The nayward might resist and try to stop however it doesn't matter. So have courage and be kind. Have courage and be kind.
