"Yes Man" is a romantic comedy film directed by Peyton Reed and based on the book of the same name, which is written by British humorist Danny Wallace. It tells the story of a pessimistic bank loan officer Carl Allen who has become self-contained since his divorce from ex-wife Stephanie. He misses all the opportunities of his life, even his friend's engagement party. But one day Carl meets an old colleague, who advises him to go to a motivational "Yes!" seminar. This seminar fills its members with enthusiasm to say "yes" to every chance. From this point Carl's live will completely change.

Peyton Reed, the director of the film, whose other notable works are "Bring It On", "Down with Love", "The Break-Up" . "Yes Man" received mixed reviews but in spite of that fact the film was a box office success. As for the film in general, to my mind, it inspirits to say "yes" at least during the day of watching.

I need to say that I'm not an admirer of Jim Carrey but he's undoubtedly talented. However, his role of Carl Allen isn't really noteworthy. At first he's lonely and leads a secluded life. However, then Carl becomes a confident open-minded man. All of these changes are pretty well shown by Jim Carrey. A character of Bradley Cooper is Peter, one of Carl's best friends. Zooey Deschanel as Allison is an active girl whose life is a movement. But these portrayals aren't remarkable. Unfortunately.

Advantages
  • Jim Carrey as Carl Allen
  • Zooey Deschanel as Allison
  • Bradley Cooper as Peter
  • The idea

Disadvantages
  • All in all, it's just an other romantic comdey

"Strangenesses"
  • Yes or No?

Clue Moments
  • Meeting with Allison
  • Saying "Yes"

Let's address to the main idea of the film. Many possibilities and opportunities are lost because of uncertainty, fears, and doubts. However, what will happen if you say "yes" to something?  OK, you may fail. And what? Public censure. And what? Is public opinion so valuable? Personally, I believe that no, it isn't. Do what you want, within some your own reasonable limits, and be happy. Meet someone? Yes.  Take the initiative? Of course. Go beyond the mark? Why not? But if something hurts you or conflicts with your views, you must know when it's necessary to say "no".

Carl Allen: Hey, Carl... you wanna give your money away to some homeless guy? Yes, yes I do. How 'bout letting him use up the phone battery so that you can't get help when your car runs out of gas? You know what? That sounds like a great idea!

Carl Allen: [refusing incoming cell phone call] No.
Carl Allen: [refusing another incoming call] No means no.

Carl Allen: Yeah.

Carl Allen: Yeah, I guess.
