"Ex Machina" is a science fiction drama film written and directed by author and screenwriter Alex Garland. The story is about a young programmer, who is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I..

Cast
  • Domhnall Gleeson as Caleb Smith
  • Alicia Vikander as Ava the A.I.
  • Oscar Isaac as Nathan Bateman
  • Sonoya Mizuno as Kyoko
  • Symara A. Templeman as Jasmine
  • Elina Alminas as Amber

Alex Garland is more known as a screenwriter such films as "28 Days Later" or "Dredd". And "Ex Machina" is his first directorial experiment that turned pretty exciting but not without shortcomings. However the film touches upon important psychological questions that makes reflect. As for the cast, I want to mention unusual Gleeson's Caleb, ambitious Isaac's Nathan and alive Vikander's Ava.

Advantages
  • Alicia Vikander as Ava the A.I.
  • Dialogues

Disadvantages
  • Why Ava becomes so mean?
"Strangenesses"
  • Where is the truth?

Clue Moments
  • Going mad
  • An escape

Is A.I. people's helper ot it's going to be their master? Today there's no answer. But it's clear that it will be cleverer as it may find solutions which differ from people's ones. So trying to make something better a person might create a new race that will surpass him.

Quotations
* * *
Ava: Isn't it strange, to create something that hates you?
* * *
Nathan: C'mon buddy. After a long day of Turing tests you gotta unwind.
Caleb: What were you doing with Ava?
Nathan: What?
Caleb: You tore up her picture.
Nathan: I'm gonna tear up the f*in' dance floor, dude. Check it out.
* * *
Nathan: One day the AIs are going to look back on us the same way we look at fossil skeletons on the plains of Africa. An upright ape living in dust with crude language and tools, all set for extinction.
* * *
Nathan: Impulse. Response. Fluid. Imperfect. Patterned. Chaotic.
* * *
Nathan: What's your preference?
Caleb: In girls?
Nathan: No, Caleb, salad dressing!
* * *
Nathan: I am God
* * *
Nathan: There you go again. Mr Quoteable
* * *
Caleb: We need to talk about the lies you've been spinning me.
Nathan: What lies?
Caleb: ...Why me?
