I hoped that the role of Damian Hayes/Edward "Mark" Hale would make me see something new in Reynolds' acting (as my favourite film with him is still "The Amityville Horror") but - alack! "Self/less" turned out a boring picture with overextended dialogues and a good idea, so I was disappointed.
As for Ryan Reynolds, his character wasn't something new just a hackneyed one. Ben Kingsley, one of my favourite actors, also didn't excel. And only Matthew Goode made me glad - double-faced genius with a total obsession of his brainchild.
Advantages
- Ben Kingsley as Damian Hayes
- Matthew Goode as Professor Albright
- The interesting idea
- Music
Disadvantages
- Too slow moving
- Boring at times
"Strangenesses"
- Why Damian can't just leave Mark's family and live free?
Clue Moments
- The procedure
- Meeting with Maddie and Anna
- Meeting with Claire
- The Retirn of Mark
Why most people are so captures with the idea of immortality? Probably through the sense of invulnerability? But is it worth changing a body and a personality? This way it's more like starting a new life but with a former consciousness - that's exciting but not as salutary as they may think. Therefore probably if I had such opportunity, I wouldn't use it.
