"You Only Live Twice" is an action adventure thriller film directed by Lewis Gilbert and written by Roald Dahl, based on "You Only Live Twice" by Ian Fleming. It's the fifth installment of the "James Bond" film series which follows Secret Agent James Bond and the Japanese secret service ninja force who must find and stop the true culprit of a series of spacejackings before nuclear war is provoked.

Cast
  • Sean Connery as James Bond
  • Akiko Wakabayashi as Aki
  • Mie Hama as Kissy Suzuki
  • Donald Pleasence as Ernst Stavro Blofeld
  • Tetsurō Tamba as Tiger Tanaka
  • Tsai Chin as Ling
  • Teru Shimada as Mr. Osato
  • Karin Dor as Helga Brandt/No. 11
  • Bernard Lee as M
  • Charles Gray as Dikko Henderson
  • Burt Kwouk as Spectre 3
  • Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny
  • Desmond Llewelyn as Q
  • Ronald Rich as Hans

Frankly speaking, I've got already tired of the franchise but "You Only Live Twice" saves the film series due to wonderful Donald Pleasence's performance as Ernst Stavro Blofeld. By the way, Sean Connery's Bond is charming as always.

Advantages
  • Sean Connery as James Bond
  • Donald Pleasence as Ernst Stavro Blofeld

Disadvantages
  • Too pretentious
  • Some scenes are overacted

"Strangenesses"
  • Seems like James Bond is absolutely immortal

Clue Moments
  • Death of Bond
  • Tenby
  • Tiger Tanaka
  • The tourist who took the photo was killed as a security precaution
  • SPECTRE
  • Preparing to launch a nuclear attack on the USSR
  • Blofeld

Quotations
* * *
Blofeld: As you can see, I am about to inaugurate a little war. In a matter of hours after America and Russia have annihilated each other. We shall see a new power dominating the world.
* * *
Henderson: That was stirred, not shaken?
* * *
James Bond: Do you have any commandos here?
Tiger Tanaka: I have much, much better. Ninjas. Top-secret, Bond-san. This is my ninja training school.
* * *
Aki: I think I will enjoy very much serving under you.
* * *
Aki: You wouldn't touch that horrible woman, would you?
James Bond: Oh heaven forbid.
* * *
Russian Diplomat: The world knows we are a peace-loving people.
* * *
James Bond: Why do Chinese girls taste different from all other girls?
Ling: You think we better, huh?
James Bond: No, just different. Like Peking Duck is different from Russian Caviar. But I love them both.
Ling: Darling, I give you very best duck.
* * *
Blofeld: You made a mistake, my friend. No astronaut would enter the capsule carrying his air conditioner.
* * *
MoneyPenny: Oh, by the way, how was the girl?
James Bond: (turns the lamp towards her, interrogation style) Which girl?
MoneyPenny: The... uh... Chinese one we set you up with?
James Bond: Another few minutes and I would have found out.
